The name check
Before a curator can launch a trend, Noise checks its name. There are three possible results:- Available. The name is open. Add a cover image and an optional thesis, then launch.
- Already on Noise. The trend exists. Noise directs you to the existing trend rather than creating a duplicate. Names count as the same even with different capitals, spacing, or punctuation.
- Rejected. Noise explains why and often suggests alternatives.
What you can curate
- Brands and companies as cultural subjects: Stussy, ChatGPT, FP Journe
- Named works: albums, films, tours, games, shows
- A creator’s channel, podcast, show, or company, such as “Chamberlain Coffee”
- Aesthetics, practices, and scenes: “vibe coding”, “mob wife aesthetic”, “run clubs”
- Sports teams, competitions, and events: “Ferrari F1”, “Champions League”
- Named memes and internet moments with a lasting identity
What you can’t curate
- People on their own. Musicians, athletes, actors, influencers, and executives are not trends. Curate their work instead: an album, a tour, a channel, a company.
- Politics. Politicians, parties, movements, elections, conflicts, and policy debates.
- Scams and memecoins. Coins where the meme is the whole product.
- A company’s financial numbers. The brand is fine. Its stock price, sales, or earnings are not.
- Sexual content, weapons, extremism, or divisive religion.
- Anything illegal or exploitative.
- One-off news. An announcement or a single incident leaves nothing to follow next month.
- Generic phrases. “Luxury fashion trends” is not one specific thing.
- Duplicates. If it is already on Noise, you’ll be taken to the existing trend.
